Mountaineer and breast cancer survivor inspires on International Women’s Day

Sharon Cohrs conquered Mount Everest, cancer (twice) and inspired the BreastScreen Victoria team with her determination, resilience, and sense of adventure.

On Tuesday, International Women’s Day, Sharon visited BreastScreen Victoria and shared her story.

Since being diagnosed with breast cancer, Sharon has summited Mount Everest, becoming the first-ever breast cancer survivor to complete the ascent. She started a trekking company and was diagnosed with a rare second cancer. Sharon learned to walk—and climb—again.

Accompanied by a moving presentation, Sharon took the BreastScreen team on a journey through key moments of her life that shaped the person she is today.

“Anything is possible,” Sharon said. “It’s all about finding your own Everest.”

The event was a fantastic way to celebrate International Women’s Day and be inspired by a strong and courageous woman.
