Celebrating NAIDOC Week 2026

This week we’re celebrating NAIDOC Week, highlighting the history, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

It is a time for communities across Australia to come together and recognise the strength, creativity and resilience of First Nations peoples, while reflecting on the ongoing journey towards reconciliation and equity.

This year marks a significant milestone, it’s 50 years of the NAIDOC movement and this year’s theme is, 50 Years of DeadlyThe theme pays tribute to the Elders who stood firm, the organisers who carved out space, the artists who transformed resistance into expression, and the communities who continue to show up, year after year. It is a celebration of legacy, leadership and cultural pride.

As we celebrate NAIDOC Week, we also acknowledge the importance of improving health outcomes and ensuring culturally safe care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

BreastScreen Victoria's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Women Fact Sheet provides information about breast screening and the support available to First Nations women, while My Story: Vanessa Scales shares a personal perspective on the importance of screening, early detection and culturally appropriate healthcare.
