33 women in Stonnington might have breast cancer

BreastScreen Victoria statistics have revealed that over 1,500 women across Victoria—and 33 women in Stonnington alone—might have breast cancer, but don’t know it because they haven’t had a breast screen.

To help find these women, City of Stonnington Councillors Cr Sally Davis, Cr Marcia Griffin, Cr Judy Hindle, Cr Jami Klisaris and Cr Melina Sehr are urging women over 50 to get a free breast screen.

“In light of this data, the City of Stonnington is encouraging women to have a free breast screen,” Cr Griffin said.

“I strongly recommend women take advantage of this free service—right here in Prahran.

“The BreastScreen Victoria screening van—fitted with the latest technology—will be parked in Princes Gardens from 29 April to 17 May 2019.

“Seventy-five percent of women diagnosed with breast cancer are over the age of 50—the vast majority of whom have no family history of the disease,” added Cr Griffin.

“Book your appointment while the van is in Princes Gardens. Breast screens are free, with a woman, and only take 10 minutes,” Cr Griffin said.

The van will be at Princes Gardens, Malvern Rd (between Little Chapel St and Essex St) from 29 April to 17 May 2019.

Appointments can be made online or by calling 13 20 50.
