Supporting multicultural patients
Thank you for promoting breast screening to your multicultural patients. As a GP, you play an important role in increasing participation and supporting the early detection of breast cancer.
If you would like some in-language and English printed resources to display in your clinic, please email communications@breastscreen.org.au
At BreastScreen Victoria, we use the Victorian Electoral Roll to invite women and eligible trans and gender diverse people aged 50 to 74 without breast symptoms to have a free breast screen (mammogram) every two years.
Our program is also available to women aged 40 to 49 years and those over 74 years, however we recommend women discuss with their doctor if breast screening is the right option for them based on their individual risk of breast cancer.
The BreastScreen Victoria program is not suitable for people with breast symptoms. Patients with breast symptoms should be referred to a diagnostic pathway for timely assessment and care.
We now report breast density to clients with their results. We recommend that clients with dense breasts (BI-RADS category C) and extremely dense breasts (BI-RADS category D) discuss their risk with their doctor.
BreastScreen Australia has also developed further guidelines to GPs. Risk assessment tools such as iPrevent or the Tyrer-Cuzick Risk Model may assist in facilitating these discussions and supporting personalised risk management.
To book an appointment, patients can visit www.breastscreen.org.au or call 13 20 50.
Join us on our mission towards no deaths from breast cancer in Victoria.
