For consumers
Consumers can play an important role in assisting researchers to better understand real-world needs and diverse perspectives of our community. From being involved in research to guiding decision-making, consumer perspectives provide a unique source of knowledge.
Effective consumer engagement leads to more actionable findings that support the successful translation of research into improvements for the BreastScreen Program.
At BreastScreen Victoria we help researchers engage with clients through our Consumer Network and Advisory Groups in accordance with our Consumer Engagement Framework.
How you can be involved in research
Register to become a Lifepool participant
The Lifepool research project is helping improve our understanding of how breast, ovarian and other gynaecological cancers develop, to find better ways of screening for these cancers, and predicting a woman’s individual risk.
Lifepool currently has over 55,000 participants and is continuing to recruit women across Australia. When you agree to participate, you will be asked to complete a health and lifestyle questionnaire and provide consent for your BreastScreen Victoria images and data to be shared with Lifepool. You may then be asked to donate a saliva or blood sample for DNA testing.
By contributing to the Lifepool Project, you could make a significant contribution towards improving the health of Australian women.
Join the BreastScreen Victoria Consumer Network
Our Consumer Network is a committed group of people who support work at different levels of the organisation.
As a BreastScreen Victoria Consumer Network member, we may invite you to participate in a range of consumer roles across the organisation, including contributing to research projects.
Further information is on the BreastScreen Victoria Consumer Network page.
Participate if a project or trial is underway at your BreastScreen Victoria clinic
If a research project is happening at your clinic, you will usually be advised when you book your breast screen appointment. You will be provided with information about the project and an opportunity to express your consent to participate if you wish to do so.
