Participation Low at Footscray BreastScreen Clinic

Women living in Footscray are failing to make use of the local BreastScreen Victoria clinic. Screening participation has fallen in recent months and many appointment slots remain unfilled.

The low local participation in the program comes as a surprise to 60 year old Yarraville woman Yvonne Pagan who has a breast screen at the Footscray clinic every two years.

“Some women may find the process a little embarrassing, but you have to be proactive when it comes to your health. It’s your body and your responsibility to yourself and your family if you want to be there for the duration of your children’s lives,” Ms Pagan said.

BreastScreen Victoria particularly encourages women aged 50 to 69 to screen as it is proven they are at most benefit from the program.
