Nobel prize for medicine won by cancer researchers

James Allison of the University of Texas and Tasuku Honjo of Kyoto Universiy have won the Nobel Prize in medicine for their discoveries that help the body fight cancer cells.

Their research has led to drugs that allow the body’s immune system to fight back and constitutes ‘a landmark in our fight against cancer,’ said the Nobel Assembly of Sweden’s Karolinska Institute, which selects the winners of the award.

This kind of research has led to new drugs for skin, lung, head and neck, bladder, kidney, and liver cancer.
